This tintype photograph features a well dressed older man with a beard and slightly rosy hand painted cheeks. Very few of the tintype photos are found with added hand painting. Someone liked this fellow well enough to try to make him more human. He is looking a little serious, as is common in photos from this time, because the subject had to sit for an extended period of time while the photograph was taken. The photograph was likely taken in the 1860s or 1870s, when tintypes were most popular. The man's outfit and physical attributes are very in line with pictures taken of Abraham Lincoln. Based on the edges, it appears that at one time this photograph was bound in an album.
