This Victorian tintype photo portrait of a young teenage girl is hand tinted to create pink color detail in the cheeks and bow. This photo may have been done to prepare for the challenge of finding this daughter a suitable husband. Teen age girls were usually offered to a suitable husband after they turned 15 or 16. The tintype offered a perfect way to mail a photo to a perspective husband, or family looking for a wife for a son. Young women in the mid 1800s had little chance to revolt as being a spinster was not seen as acceptable. This could be a great addition to your collection or project.
