This is a lovely Tin Type photo of a girl in the Victorian era all dressed up to sit for a photo that took patience to sit for. Tin Type photos required the subject to sit very still for a very long period of time due to the exposure needs of the camera. This teenager did a good job of not moving her eyes. Many tintypes have the subject look to the side as they were no longer focusing on the camera.
