The History of Rome by Dr. Goldsmith 1859 For Use in Schools Rare 1800s Ex-Library Copy

"The History of Rome by Dr. Goldsmith still continues to be regarded as the best compendious popular work which has been written on that subject. So felicitous, indeed, is the style of this celebrated writer, and his sentiments are so just and beautiful, that his predictions are all eminently calculated to instruct and delight the reader. The present edition of the above work has been thoroughly revised throughout, and numerous valuable notes added by the distinguished author of 'Cromwell.'"

This book appears to be an ex-library copy, as there are "Bylaws for the Regulation of the Lyceum Hall Association's Library" in Mill River, Massachusetts pasted inside the front cover. For a former library book of this age, "The History of Rome" is in great condition! There is some foxing, as is to be expected in a book that is over 150 years old (see pictures). The cover is still completely intact and the book is structurally sound. No tears or missing pages are evident and the marbled page edges are still clear and visible. This is a very interesting little book that seems to have quite a history attached to it!
